Science Central – Newcastle upon Tyne

Our team was appointed commercial advisers for the 24 acre site to 1NG, the City Development Company for Newcastle and Gateshead, who managed the review and update of the existing science and education led masterplan on behalf of the owners of the site, Newcastle University, Newcastle City Council and One NorthEast. The masterplan review was undertaken for the site for a science-led, mixed use development with an anticipated 15 – 20 year development programme. The intention is for the site to provide science and innovation space, linking to Newcastle University’s excellence in development of sustainability technology, with early phases including an Innovation Centre / Incubator accommodation.

The team has advised on the phasing and delivery of the preferred scheme and the potential partnership mechanisms appropriate to facilitate the development. In considering delivery and partnership structures, consideration was given to the wider Science City/Discovery Quarter programme, to ensure connectivity and synergy with other developments proposed as part of the City’s regeneration.
