Scotswood Local Housing Company
In 2007, Turnberry was appointed senior adviser to Newcastle City Council, the Homes and Communities Agency and Bridging NewcastleGateshead (the local housing pathfinder in the North East). The Scotswood Local Housing Company is a joint venture delivery vehicle established between the public-sector partners and a private-sector consortium led by Barratt Development and Keepmoat. Turnberry led the procurement of the private sector partner through the Competitive Dialogue process, alongside legal and cost consultancy advisers, focussing on the commercial and financial deliverability of
the proposals.
The procurement process began in 2007, at the peak of the commercial property and housing markets and, despite the significant downturn in the economy, was successfully concluded in 2009 with the selection of the Barratt-led consortium as preferred partner. The joint venture was formally established in 2010, with site preparation and landscaping works commencing the same year. Development of housing has now commenced on-site.
The gross development value of the completed project is forecast to be in the region of £250 million.
